FIRST IMPRESSIONS/ GREETING
First impressions count! When you walk in through the door you're already being evaluated, from the receptionist to the employer. Take into account these two important points on the day:
INTERVIEW SET-UP
Introduction:
The first few minutes of the interview is used to establish rapport with the candidate, engaging in small talk to make them feel more at ease.
The interviewer may start with a simple sentence such as the distance of travel to the interview. i.e. “Did it take you long to get here?” Or “Did you manage to find us ok?” etc. These first few minutes is where you make a first and lasting impression.
This is a good opportunity to demonstrate your communication skills.
Information exchange:
The next section of the interview is spent determining whether there is a good match between the employer’s needs and your skills and career objectives.
To which the interviewer will ask questions about your qualifications, background and career aims, and will present further information about the position and company.
Here is your opportunity to ask questions about the position and the company, in turn this will help distinguish whether this role is right for you.
Conclusion:
The interviewer will usually close by telling you what the next step will be. If not, then ask: also try to find out when you should hear back, but don’t push.
Finally thank the interviewer for his or her time and shake hands.
