Helen Nutton: I can’t live without...

Jul 29 2008 by Claire Rees, Western Mail

This week: Helen Nutton, 27, from Cardiff, principal consultant at Micross Recruitment

- I studied English Literature at university and I love to relax and escape with a good book. It’s great that you can get totally lost in the storyline, so much so that you can’t put it down. Current favourites include The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, We Need to Talk About Kevin, by Lionel Shriver, and The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Although I have been known to dip into heat magazine when pickings are slim!

- I moved to Cardiff in 2003 and since then I’ve found a really strong, supportive network of friends who I love spending time with. Collectively, they have a great sense of humour, which has helped me through some difficult times, and I definitely couldn’t live without them.

- A lot of my friends and family are spread across the country so my phone is vital to keep in touch with them. Likewise, my phone is crucial to my job. Being in the recruitment industry means a lot of my time is spent on the phone to candidates and clients.

- I don’t know if I can put my finger on it and say why exactly I love walking but I just do. It gives me time to think and clear my head. It helps me to relax, it’s exercise but not too strenuous and it gets me outside in the fresh air. My boyfriend and I like to wander off on a Sunday afternoon wherever the mood takes us. Recently, we did the Storey Arms walk in Brecon, it was hard going but the views were spectacular – well worth it. Micross is planning a charity night walk through the Beacons in support of Tros Gynnal in September and I’ll be bugging people for sponsorship!

- Working hard all week means that I couldn’t live without my weekends away. I regularly visit friends and family across the UK and I also enjoy camping and going to festivals. My favourite place for a weekend break is Liverpool. It’s where I went to university and I love going back there. The nightlife is great, the locals are friendly and there is so much history in the city, I would thoroughly recommend it to someone looking for a weekend break.
